Not so daft, imo. Interchangeable lens/sensor combination modules ... i.e. RX1R with lots of interchangeable brothers & sisters. Curved sensors to match optical projection range (for UWA/WA). No more dust bunnies either. Keeping the optical to digital self contained and coupling at the electronic-electronic rather than coupling between optical and electronic makes a lot of sense to me.
