A lot of the issues with DR and EVFs could be solved by having a customisable setting to lift the shadows in the processing pipeline in high-contrast situations. I believe SONY\'s DRO (dynamic range optimisation) does something like this, to take advantage of the full sensor DR in the same way we lift shadows in post when shooting RAW. I use a NEX but haven\'t played with DRO since I first got the camera so can\'t remember if the DR compression is reflected in live-view and in the EVF.
