The little watchman - Print shown | |
This time in Bryce.
Earlier in the day when i had gone to town to get gas, it started snowing heavily...big flakes. When i was done the snow had stopped, clouds parted and the sun was shining...the eye of the storm was overhead. I drove back to Bryce in hopes it would snow again, but it didn\'t. About half hour later i could see the 2nd storm moving in at a distance, wind picked up...things started to get dark, you could hear the thunder in the distance and see lighting behind bryce point. I took out my gear and settled in at this spot after walking back and forth between sunrise and sunset point.
Another half hour or so and a HUGE wall of clouds just rolled over Bryce point and started descending into the valley, the wind by now was stronger and lashing me in the face with tiny droplets of water and ice crystals...i setup the tripod and the camera, wiping the lens every other minute as i was facing the storm head on. As the clouds started to engulf the valley, the sun shone through on some of the hoodoos, at that point i started to capture this pano, quickly moving composing, focusing, shifting left to right, bracketing, refocusing to get tree and then the hoodoos..shift...do the same thing...shift...do it all over ...all the while the ice was pelting me. My hands turned red from the coldness..i think my nose fell off.
About 10 minutes later the whole valley was covered with clouds.
5D III, 24 TSE, bracketed several shots (27), manual focus
