I really don\'t see the issue ... stick with what you\'ve got.

Heck, I stayed on CS3 until last June 2012, when I picked up CS6 at my last chance for academic pricing ... anticipating their move to subscription only. Everyone is making like the world is going to come to an end for the ability to use your current Adobe products in the future. I don\'t see that happening anytime soon. I figure I might need to stay upgrade LR in the event I pick up a new camera someday that isn\'t supported by CS6, but even then ... who says I\'ll have to use the subscription, since I still own CS6 (or CS5.5 in your case)?

Is everybody P.O. about it ... sure, but if you\'ve got CS5.5 ... stick with CS 5.5. You\'re not missing much in CS6 except mostly bells & whistles and convenience changes. The nuts, and bolts will still get the job done.
