Funny, before I finished reading your post I started thinking \"so, stop down\". Then I saw that is exactly what you are doing. One has that option with any lens, of course.
I have to say (as it might not be apparent so far) that I realize there is no right or wrong here. Just preference. I simply have a very strong preference.
