If you are really concerned about a square gaussian bokeh and things like this, then what is the point of doing photography for fun?

Are you asking what is wrong with a lens that makes your photos look like junk?

The answer is it makes your photos look like junk.

Any lens can produce bad ( nervous ) bokeh from time to time. It depends on the background mostly.

The highly esteemed 70-200 F2.8L IS from canon can also produce poop bokeh :

The Canon 70-200mm produces bad bokeh at certain focal lengths and focus points, and with certain backgrounds.

Sigma invented a lens that produces bad Bokeh at every opportunity it gets. And with most backgrounds. I\'ve seen the issue in nearly half of samples. Wouldn\'t you be mad if your $900+ lens produced that kind of background blur almost every single time? It\'s unacceptable how severe the issue is, pictures from the lens look \"broken\".

Canon\'s 35mm is one of my favorite lenses and that lens is a master of good bokeh. It\'s a real shame Sigma messed up the bokeh on lens who\'s reason for existing at least for me is bokeh.

I think Sigma knows they created a dud and are hoping that amateurs buy their product based on how 1 dimensional reviewers will praise the lens for having such amazing MTF. They want to target the amateurs because they know the pros will just buy Canon\'s more expensive product.

Keep in mind that I\'m a huge fan of certain Sigma products their 85mm 1.4 is amazing and replaced my Canon 85mm 1.2 because it had less purple fringing and more resolution.

This lens is just nasty though.
