NEX has full frame upgrade path, M43 doesn\'t
The NEX, just like all mirrorless systems, first targets the general public and then focuses on the higher-end users. The NEX body and lens introductions have clearly reflected this basic strategy. With the introduction of several NEX professional video cameras with class leading features, a NEX full frame camcorder, RX-1 FF P&S, and soon a NEX FF still camera, there\'s no doubt in my mind that the NEX system is now targeting the highest-end professional still and video markets.
M43 market share is facing huge pressure from below and above. Smartphones are taking away P&S market share, forcing camera makers to introduce more and more advanced compact cameras with larger sensors. These advanced P&S will eat into Nikon 1 and M43 market share. Worldwide, APS-C mirrorless cameras are also taking market share away from M43 systems. With NEX going FF and RX1 FF P&S already here, Sony may introduce APS-C P&S and that will put even more pressure on the M43 systems.
