Re: 5D Mark III + 100-400L + Kenko 1.4X DGX Autofocus?

Tamron SP AF 1.4x Pro Teleconverter for Canon Mount Lenses

This is the best 1.4X TC I have tested for the 5D III to focus at F8. I am getting images with excellent sharpness in the center, and very good sharpness accross the frame. The 5D III focus with the 400mm F5.6 is quick with single point focus, and IS Servo or single point focus.
I have no issue focusing birds or birds in flight with the Tamron SP AF 1.4x Pro TC.

I use the 5D III with the 400mm f5.6. It works with the two non-reporting 1.4X TC (Tamron & Kenko) I have. The focus is very usable and even BIF shots come out sharp. There is vignetting with some focusing distance / F-stop combinations. But the center sharpness is very good.

I find the F8 combination works well here in sunny New Mexico
-- 400 F5.6 / 1.4x for 560mm F8

you can find details on the TC\'s in my posts on this other FM thread ....

I also use the 5D III and a non-reporting 2X Kenko TC. The combination is very usable for most shooting but it is best to keep focus close manually with BIF shots for best results. The 600mm F8 combination has been fantastic for bird shots. the 300/ 2X has very little vignetting.

both combinations work well and have allowed me to get some good details shots of smaller birds and more distant action
