Julian, I would have believed it if you said the 1st image was shot with the Oly 60 macro. The sharpness and detail is mind-blowing! More power to us m43 shooters!
Bobby there is no reason that a macro is sharper than any other lens. Often not the case. The macro as you are aware is mostly a lens that can give a 1:1 or greater ratio. It has an inbuilt tube to put it simply, yet will still focus to infinity, with a very close minimum focus distance, often inches. Most lenses even cheap kit ones when closed down are very sharp. I don\'t do a lot of macro, therefore would not buy the oly 60 macro unless I wanted that focal length for general photography as well. I have canon macros and if I started out again I would go tubes every time. For the OM-D I may well get tubes over getting the 60mm. Yet again I can be as rash as the next person. Tubes with a good lens is equally as sharp as any macro lens, I may be deluded and if so I am prepared to stay that way as it is the least costly option
Here are some images , a wrist watch and small coin with the cheapest canon 50 f1.8 with tubes on the OM-D. Yes shallow depth of field but greater than 1:1 and works for a casual macro photographer.
Almost no PP.
