Re: 5D2 vs 6D: What's your verdict?

Getting a 5D2 now and a 5D3 in 1.5 years. 6D doesn\'t attract me because I think the 5D2 is better where it counts. I only see added value in the sensor, but as long as I stick to ISO3200 max, the 5D2 is clean enough.

Re: 5D2 vs 6D: What's your verdict?

OK I took delivery of my first 5D2 yesterday. Hearing used 5D2 prices will drop now made me think of returning it, but I really like the camera.

My situation is not in the options given for this poll.

I own a 5Dclassic, I need a second FF body and initially I was after the 5D3. But when it went up from 2700 to 2999, I knew I had to think of something smarter for an investment.

I run a photography business so spending unnecessary €€€ is bad. So I\'ve been thinking: Assuming I will buy a new 5D3 no later than spring 2014 (1.5 years from now) how much difference is there in investment between getting a 5D2 now or 5D3 now. Calculating €€€ spent in 2017 (investments, interest, tax refunds, resale value) looks like this:

Scenario 1: Get 5D3 now for €2999:
Cost = €2478 (excl. VAT) + €536 (lost interest for €2478) - €743 (tax refund in 5 years) - €827 (resale value in 2017) = €1444
My 5Dclassic might not live until 2017

Scenario 2: Get 5D2 now for €1309, get 5D3 spring 2014 for €2499 and sell both in 2017:
Cost 5D2 = €1100 + €238 - €360 - €300 = €678 (for 5 years)
Cost 5D3 = €2065 + €303 - €409 - €1156 = €803 (for 3.5 years)
Sell 5D in 2014 for €300
Total cost scenario 2: €1181

Scenario 1 I pay €1444 in 5 years time and use 5D3+5D combo, provided the 5D holds through that long (it\'s 6 years old already and has 60000 actuations out of rated 100000).

Scenario 2 I pay €1181 (€263 less) in 5 years time and I get to use 5D2+5D combo for 18 months and 5D2+5D3 combo for the following 3.5 years. 5D2 is fresh and has 14000 actuations out of rated 150000.
I\'m assuming a 5D3 price drop to €2499 by spring 2014, but even if it sticks at €2699, both scenario\'s will cost about the same and no 2 holds much more value.

Having taken the time for this math, there is no way I\'ll get a 5D3 now and the 5D2 is a perfect investment. The number of images I should lose in the first 18 months for not having the 5D3 yet won\'t stack up against the cost saved.

So I will keep this 5D2 and be happy, also from a financial point of view.
