Summer photography with Canon equipment

One can tell that this summer is drawing to a close, since the nature colours have started to drift towards yellow already. Now perhaps the best time for outdoor photography is approaching, at least in the northern hemisphere.

Monopod mounted 7D + 800L.

This is one of those long range shots with 7D at somewhat higher ISO (400 in this case) where I\'ve become convinced that 7D due to its file noise character is in fact robbing me of \"reach\".
However, at ISO 100, I could crop 7D files a fair bit, provided they are well focused, as the noise doesn\'t become a problem yet.
This problem is more pronunced with very light targets agains smooth darker background, such as this Egret. If the bird is exposed properly, then everything around her turns out very dark. Now, if one tries to lighten such background in photoshop, noise starts to become a problem. Some folks would suggest \"shooting to the right\" of the histogram.......well, that\'s even worse in my books because now one has to rely on photoshop to fix the target overexposure which in the case of blown whites doesn\'t work well at all.
