the best bang for buck period is imho the contax g 45/2. it costs nearly $400 now, but it matches or beats anything under $2000 on the NEX.

You\'d really go for the Contax G 45 at around $400 and that required adapter (metabones = extra $$$ + weight) over options like the Sigma 30mm 2.8 for less than half the price ($200 and half the weight) or Sony\'s own 50mm f1.8 OSS which is only $300, is a bit faster, native mount again so you don\'t have to mess with adapters and also have the option to have auto focus when you want it, plus a very effective IS system which can come in pretty handy at these midtele focal lengths ??

I\'ve had all the contax G\'s and certainly think they are fine lenses, and certainly a deal as far as Zeiss optics go, but didn\'t find the lens any better than what I\'m seeing from the Sigma 30 or Sony 50. Though bear in mind I\'m merely going from memory and files shot with the NEX5n with the Contax and the NEX7 with the current lens so I dont have any A/B comparisons but I am pretty familiar with both lenses.

I always hated the binding Kipon adapter, and the Metabones while functional was just so big and heavy, especially when mounted to some otherwise hefty lens full of brass and glass

yes, yes i would. i\'ve never shot with a lens that is as good across the frame from f/2.8 to f/11 (including the 40 cron, 50 cron, zm 50/2, and a host of slr lenses). it\'s extremely good at f/2 as well, but my canon FL 55/1.2 is a hair sharper there. plus, it has the wonderful zeiss color, contrast, and \"look\". i have not shot with the new sigmas, but f/2.8 makes them much less usable for me (available darkness and all). the sony 50 doesn\'t look like it compares optically, though it looks to be a fine lens and probably better for portraits than the g 45.

as for usability, everybody has different needs and reactions, but my kipon adapter is nice and smooth and bothers me less than the focus by wire rings on the sony lenses. autofocus is a negative for me because i never use it and it makes manual focus suck. image stabilization would be nice, but i\'d have to test it myself to see how useful it is – i found oly\'s IBIS to be very helpful while sony\'s IBIS seldom helpful.
