Bottom line is that this is Nikon\'s policy and if the wait becomes so protracted as to become impracticable for users, all the while a similar option arises from Canon (or someone else), people will migrate away and Nikon will be forced to rethink its strategy.
Trust the free market to sort things through. It may not be pretty but efficiencies spring forth thereof.
Personally, having sold my D700, It\'s gotten me to haul out the old FM2-T and re-learn film again. I had forgotten how light and compact that camera was. If 6 months passes and no D800E that I ordered over 2 months ago, I\'ll see what\'s around and decide then. Lots of folks will do the same, especially working pros who aren\'t NPS members and actually need equipment for their livelihood.
