Jefferson nice shots...hows the whole panning thing work never shot cars or bikes before?
The pans are shot in shutter priority, spot metering, center point, AI Servo, with the ISO as low as I can go, and I let the aperture float. Morning shooting is best because of the light, but later in the day with harsh light…sometime you get f/22…or more…you’ll see every dust spot you will ever have on you sensor.
Gotta’ shoot ‘em when they run…
I generally aim at the helmet (or area with contrast), and follow through with the center point on target. I want the shutter speed as slow as I can get, usually between 1/60th and 1/125th. Don’t aim at the headlights on an AMLS car, even in daylight…that will make for one dark image…those things are bright!
Elevations change rapidly at a track like Road Atlanta, so your shooting is all hand held…
Bikes take some practice, but same basic idea…but those bikes don’t hang around long, for a shot like that, you may want to pre-focus on a spot on the track you know is a passing point or some other dynamic moment or event happens regularly.

Hope this helps,
