In the cold light of day I have to agree with Ron - the savings seems fairly minimal, and losing the better resolution for post-shot checks is a definite turn off for many.
As far as I can tell, once using a fast-enough card there are only two options you can disable that might improve shot to shot speed (other than disabling insta-chimp):
- JPG generation when shooting raw
- Noise reduction
I\'ve not ever taken a serious look at the NR function of this camera; whatever setting I have had it on is either the default or my very first attempt at setting it up... I think I had it on an auto setting. I\'m going to attempt to time shot to shot speed with either or both of these settings on disable.
Or I might not bother. With both disabled any improvement is fairly minor... but I do want to see what the effect of in camera NR is on the raw files, if any.
One of the other improvements is said to be increased contrast and brightness when using Focus Assist; I don\'t recall reading that the improvement was specific to Mode 1 or Mode 2. I don\'t see a lot of difference in Mode 1 but I virtually never used that mode so can\'t judge. I think I\'m going to switch to using it for awhile. Sometimes a change is as good as a rest, I\'ve heard.
