The DPR G1X studio comparison shots looked pretty good to me and I like DPR\'s new moveable comparator. I set the other 3 windows up with my other cameras G10, 7D, and 5D2. Other opinions?
When the G1X was first announced I thought it would be a great upgrade to my G-12, which I use mainly for underwater photography.. Examples here, http://chrisd.net/y4NYgZ (hit the \"original\" size for real detail, all shots taken with the G-12)
I have been fighting with myself over getting an underwater housing for my 7D since I already own it and all necessary (and favorite) lenses needed for UW shooting. The fight is that I already know how well the 7D works underwater, but because of all the extra weight and lenses I would have to add a good sized Pelican Case to my already weighty dive gear bag, clothing and carry-on bag.
I have an order placed for the G1X housing (first one to be delivered from Ikelite) as well as pre-order for the G1X but I\'m just not seeing that the G1X is going to be much better than what I\'m already getting from the G-12 for UW use. Especially considering the almost \"non\" macro capabilities of the G1X (at least for my purposes). The video function would be great to have since you can zoom it with autofocus which isn\'t available on the G-12.
I compared the G1X shots on Engadget to the 7D and G-12 and just don\'t see anything that would reach out and grab me like most other new camera models that hold the amount of so-called improvements that the G1X should offer.
Maybe I\'m all wrong (which I hope I am) because the G1X would be a great UW camera since it would involve just a change in UW housings but everything else would remain basically the same (except for a slight bump in overall weight but nothing compared to the 7D housing, lenses, ports, domes, etc).
