The Everglades - It's for the Birds

Spent some enjoyable time in Florida last week, with a couple of days in the Everglades. These images are from the Shark Valley area and the Anhinga Trail, and all with the 1D MkIII and 300 F4. C&C welcome. Thanks for looking.

1. A Wood Stork making short work of a spotfin spiny eel. Just got a few spur of the moment shots of this, and thanks to my sister-in-law, Pat, for sounding the alert.

2. Female Anhinga drying her wings.

3. Purple Gallinule.

4. Snowy Egret.

5. A female Anhinga speared a small fish.

6. Tossed it the air several times.

7. One more toss, getting the head pointed toward the gullet.

8. Now, down the hatch.

9. Tricolor Heron

10. A male Anhinga waves its wings, left, right, left, right, repeatedly to attract the attention of a nearby female.

11. Great Blue Heron on alert.

12. Juvenile Double Crested Cormorant, eyes open.

13. Juvenile Double Crested Cormorant, eyes closed.

14. White Ibis.

15. Female Anhinga on a nest.

16. A Great Egret with the beginnings of breeding plumage.
