Return to the Salton Sea (9 pics)

I just got back yesterday from a 5-day trip to the Salton Sea, staying in my travel trailer Discovery. I\'ve been there at least once a year for the past 6 years, and the changes are striking. Off Garst Road near Red Hill Marina the sea has receded about a mile. And recovery is uncertain, though officials apparently have said the Sea should survive if only to cut down on the ensuing dust in the Coachella Valley (i.e., Palm Springs). Never mind saving the birds, or ecosystem, we can\'t have dust on PS\'s golf courses! The following landscapes were taken by the Canon 40D/17-55 L IS lens, and the birds by the 7D/500 f4 prime mounted on the BushHawk. All shot in RAW, converted to JPEG in DPP, then tweaked in PSPX3. Comments and/ or criticism welcome.

Sunrise at the Sea with the Tundra and Discovery at Corvina Campground, where I dry camped for 1 day --

2
Scads of Red-winged Blackbirds (and probably some Tri-coloreds mixed in) on Davis Road in the early morning --

3
American Avocet flyby at a very productive marsh next to the State Recreation Area\'s boat jetty --

4
\"Just\" a Say\'s Phoebe, but in a nicely complimentary background --

5
An Osprey yawning (sure looked like it to me at the time) on the dead tree off Lack Road --

6
GBH nests in another dead tree along the shoreline, I think they picked it for its beachfront location --

7
Snow Geese flying in a field next to the Sony Bono Wildlife Refuge headquarters --

8
Wilson\'s Snipe in the same marsh area as the Avocet flyby --

9
A vivid Super Bowl Sunday sunset at the Sea --
