Nothing. But... I decided, for my own work, that I wanted to present photograph with borders similar to what you will see in a print, and I mat in white. (I also found, again for me, that black borders can have an effect on how I perceive the image on the monitor that misleads me about how the image will work as a print - the black borders let you go darker and still see shadow detail that won\'t show up as well in the print.
In any case, it was just a personal decision, and I still might occasionally virtual-mat in black on a few images. :-)
Nice composition with that Zabriskie gully. I know that one and a few others like the back of my hand, as I\'ve been doing a multi-year informal project of photographing them, mostly in the non-golden hour times of day. One example:
