Because most of the time the beasts just lay or stand around.
Heck I shot like 3/4 of my wildlife shots using liveview 10x zoom manual focus! (partly because the 40D had not MFA and Canon was too busy to fix it before African expedition with Nat Geo grrrrrrrrr, but as I said, they mostly just sit around).
People think it\'s all wild chases and running and darting when well we left before sunrise on morning and came upon some lions laying around and we came back right before sunset and they were still in the same spot, some still laying in the same pose on their backs .
It\'s hot out there, catching food is tricky so you want to save energy and moving is tiring and wastes energy!
Well I have been in Africa and so I know a bit how things go, and was mainly being funny (and obviously failed). But having said that, even when I shoot static landscapes I keep the camera in high speed, if for no other reason than you never know when you need it, and the time to switch to continuous may ruin the day. Granted, with the 1Ds3 high speed isn\'t that high, but still.
oopps I had a brain freeze I was thinking One Shot vs. AI Servo not Single Shot vs. High Speed. Yeah I agree most people keep it on High Speed much of the time since you never know.
