really appreciate all the feedback guys! yeah, i still can't figure out if i would miss the zoom if i got a prime. i don't mind spending the money for the ze21, but i'm not sure if i'll get annoyed if i have to swap it out all the time for a more flexible zoom (35-70, 24-85). i guess i can always purchase the ze21 and see how it works...i would lose a little money reselling it but not too much. i'm not the type to tape my zoom to 21mm b/c i don't think it is quite the same given the large IQ difference.
Check out www.lensrentals.com ... they've got the ZE 21 for rent AND will apply rental toward purchase if you'd like to keep. Worst case is you spend some rental money to figure it out. Way easier than buying a ZE 21 to 'figure it out' and then trying to find a buyer and losing money that way.
NOTE: while few will disupte the 'king' being the ZE 21 ... I'm surprised no one has mentioned it's mustache distortion. Something to at least be aware of BEFORE the OP spends that kind of $$$. For me, I can tweak a little contrast in PP much easier than I can fix mustache stuff.

If you had the 24-85 and 21 I could see it being annoying to swap them around. But with the 21 / 35-70 combo, both lenses would give you dramatically different results, warranting the hassle of swapping lenses.
Also the 35-70 will save you some weight (100g) and yield better performance in the focal lengths covered (and it's cheaper!)

I think everyone's assuming he'll use PT LEns. It takes care of the distortion in 2 or 3 clicks in Photoshop and Aperture.
yeah, i have read about the mustache distortion and it seems like it can be fixed as people mentioned.
i have been thinkin about the 24-105, but the IQ just doesn't seem up to snuff compared to the alt lenses...although it is convenient to have IS and AF.
