--------------------------------------------------
I am not a pawn.
I am not like the others.
I will not be defined by your rules.
I will not be sacrificed.
I am not a pawn.

I am a king.

As always, your comments are greatly appreciated

It's very clever but I've always been under the impression we aren't supposed to do a lot of photoshopping on contest pics. I like it though.

Thanks for the comment.

Well, there is a basic guideline that one should highlight their photography skills and not just their software skills.

I believe that this image does highlight the actual photography as well as the creative concept. I did combine elements from two photos, but I think it was necessary to get the result I was hoping to achieve.

These days it is difficult to draw a clear line between "pure" photography and photography "enhanced' by post-processing. For me, every picture I take is saved in RAW format and then is finished with post-processing with software.

I am glad you like the submission and appreciate your comments.

Double exposures have long been a part of photography WAY BEFORE software ever was even thought about ... nicely done. I figure, if it can be done in camera or in the darkroom with film & paper, then the fact that its being done in the digital darkroom is no different.

A lot more photographic technique to pulling it off well than a few special effects mouse clicks ... good job, I'm diggin' it.

Beautifully done Eager. Too bad you and Greg happened to use the same chess pieces as props this week but each of your entries are so different that there is no real correlation in my mind.

Thanks for the nice comments!

I know that chess pieces have been photographed to death, but sometimes they still seem like just the right thing to get the point across.

Part of photography absolutely. Part of photo contests is another matter. I certainly don't want to beat a dead horse though. I do like the pic, you can never have too many chess pieces.

This particular photo contest expressly ALLOWS the use of montage techniques. The official WA Rules are available by clicking on the 'WA Rules' link up there in the page header. They state:

"Montage techniques are allowed but should be functional and kept to a minimum."

Of course, everyone can make their own decision about each entry, but I would hate to have anyone think that I am not following the rules.

On those grounds that's fine eager. I didn't mean to say you weren't following the rules. I was basically speaking of photo contests in general. Many don't allow much manipulation.

Original thinking here. No doubt it falls within the guidelines - I've seen a lot more manipulation than this in the past. Well done.

I generally don't like PP work but this pic is a really good one.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I love the concept...

I would like to see the pawn on the second to last row and I'd like to see the reflection be a queen rather than a queen...

Maybe just a chess nut, but I think the tweeked idea would be more true to the game and still retain your original idea.
