Are the exposures different?

Hard to compare since the NEX shot looks properly exposed and the D700 shot looks burned out a bit

They should be the same, but as I mentioned earlier: the nex seem to have a darker iso-rating than the nikon, I could have dropped the nikon exposure in post, but decided not to. I'll upload an adjusted version too.

ulrik, what do you think about not having any viewfinder? I'm considering a NEX to replace my D700 as the latter is simply way to heavy to carry around. What bothers me about NEX however is to rely on the LCD for composing, which requires some awkward/unstable handling ...

Actually the lcd is pretty easy to compose on, that is until you get into sunlight. I will be buying the evf for this reason.

One thing i very recently found out : if you shoot a lot of manual lenses, do yourself a huge favor and set your middle wheel to custom, not the default "shooting mode".

Doing this gives you access to Five! Custom settings very quickly...a huge improvement in the usability.

cputeq, thanks for the tip on using the custom setting on the middle wheel. I hadn't tried that, and it is better than leaving it to the default "shooting mode". Question though: I only see three functions, not five, when I set the "C" button to custom. I get ISO, WB, and D-Range. Still very useful, but I am curious about why you see five settings. Am I missing some step or something?

The camera "auto fills" in the first three options with I guess a most-used list or something. You'll see "Custom" and "Custom" again, these are slots 4 and 5 for the settings.

You might have to scroll down a bit to see the last options.

Thanks - found 'em - very cool. Really adds to the usability of this little beast.

Yesterday I sure experienced what you said about the LCD in sunlight. I knew this from the NEX-5 of course, but bought a little folding shield thingee for it, which solved a lot of it. Still, I was trying to shoot yesterday in midday sun, and couldn't see to do manual focus. I have the EVF on order, so that should solve that issue.

Got to play with my NEX-5N a little yesterday. Here are two shots using a Nikon 28mm f/2.0 AiS lens. It's one of my old favorites, and is a great match with the NEX-5 (my first NEX) and the 5N.

And one with the 18-55 kit lens, wide open and ISO 3200, in a dim restaurant:

What adapter is needed for Rokkor 58/1.2 to be used on Nex-5N?
Anyone has any sample shots?

minolta MC/MD to e-mount adapter, unless your rokkor is converted to whatever mount of slr you shoot in which case use that adapter (e.g. if Jim Buchanan converted your rokkor to eos, use an eos to e-mount adapter).

here's some examples on the NEX-3, most (maybe all) are wide open:

Shot of the wife with 5N and Rokkor 58 f/1.4. Maybe f/2 or so, I can't remember and my aperture ring is soft anyway

The images from this camera, even with the kit lens looks so much better than the original. Just bought mine last night and should be here hopefully on Tuesday to try out with my 18-200 and a new FD 55 1.2 that I can't get the damn rear cap off of! Great shots everyone! Can't wait to play.

OKC Memorial

I think this was with the Rokkor 58 f/1.4, Nex 5N. Used the RAW from this and Sony's crappy converter (which still gives better than JPEG SOOC, but it's a pain to use!)
