Alan, I'm loving that second pigeon shot! awesome work... I'm headed over to east timor for xmas, so I hope to return with some awesome shots...
btw I never got back to you about that sunset, I think you did a nice job with the shot/raw, I really like how you managed to smooth out the sky, when I get a chance I will def go back to it.
I am considering picking up the evf for my 5n, Im still not convinced on the price though... maybe a nex 6 would be a better choice or something from fuji
Thanks MRoth, Coloured, Jabberwockt. The sharp ground on the second one was where all those flying pigeons were before they took off, hence they're a little OOF, and I learned that 1/1000s shutter speed isn't enough to freeze their wings! It's a little under-exposed plus ISO800 on the old NEX-5 is noisy, and I applied zero noise reduction on the RAW to preserve detail, but I think I like all the "grain" (barely Gaussian-blurred the background selectively later).
@ Jim - that wooden pendant/toy (if that's what it is?) is very powerful/dramatic/a little creepy (in a good way!).
@Coloured - no problem about the sunset, I thought you just didn't like my treatment! It's cleaner, but colours are significantly different. It's possible that your noisier version would print cleaner than it looks on screen; a BW version might be interesting as well, with all that rippling sand texture.
Well, I have to take all my nasty comments about NEX EVFs back now, I went to Saturn today (local electronics chain) and had a look at the NEX-6, and this EVF is great! I wanted to try the A99 and RX1 as well, but they had none of the former, and only one of the latter, which was by order, and so they couldn't let me open it. The NEX-6 EVF has a nice high resolution, instantaneous response, and a very fine pixel pitch, very nice. I didn't get to try it outside, but I imagine it would be even better there.
The NEX-6 is a really sweet camera, I bonded with it immediately, completely unlike the NEX-7 and various NEX-5 versions, which I didn't get along with. If I ever get tired of MFT, I would probably try out a NEX-6, or I might even get one for my girlfriend, who loves her D5000 but never carries it anywhere due to its bulk.
Jim - love the lock. Brian - the church is exquisite.
My first attempt at something like this. I'm not completely happy with it. This is a single image, not stitched. Nex 7 plus the ZM50 f1.5 at f5.6. I'm not sure this was the right lens for the job. Maybe next time I should use the Contax G90 and make a pano out of it.

Sounds like a perfect chance to give a Christmas present that you can use.
