What a beautiful child. Your sister must be so proud!
Congrats on your career! Very happy for you!
Me and my family are doing great. All settled into our new home. Life is great and bitten once again by the photography bug. Trying to do things differently this time around...
Appreciate comments Boris, Gary and David, thanks.
Davidex, I posted some first shots w the G21 not too long ago, but I now find them on pages like 186, 179 in between and after. This thread is really explosive - it's now 40+ pages ago
Please do some more with your G21, nice to see some other using it.
Lovely kid shot Ulrik, but I find something spooky too, perhaps the light and tones.

It sure looks so from every single sample I've seen. But I still wonder if the Sonnar would suit me better since I really like the ZF Planar so much. I have yet to try it on the 5N, because I have no adapter for Nikon. But I think it'll be a tad too large.
By the way, any particular reason you've switched the ZM 35/2.8 for the 35/2?

I'm at home with a flue, but took a very short walk yesterday evening just to get some fresh air. Summicron-M 28/2 @ f/2 on my tiny tripod...
The lens seems to outresolve the sensor (5N) wide open and the colors are so saturated that I have to pull them down in PP! The angle of view is very nice in my opinion, as it is a "true" normal lens on APS-C (~42 mm equivalent on FF)....Show more →
24mm test redo: Canon FD 24mm f/2.0 vs Sony Zeiss ZA 24mm f/1.8 vs Sony kit lens. With the FD-> NEX adapter the lenses are about the same size. The FD lens+adapter is about 100g heavier than the ZA.
After my last fiasco where I forgot to lock the FD adapter (you guys have sharp eyes-I did wonder why the smaller aperture images weren’t sharper as in earlier tests but I ignored that since I was pretty sure I moved the aperture ring to the correct setting and I used hand signals to verify the aperture setting). I decided to redo my test with a more careful setup. The NEX-5N was set to M mode on a tripod with a remote shutter release. Iso was kept at 100, at f/2=1/50sec, f/4=1/15, f/8=1/4 and f/11=1/2. I focused using manual focus with live view zoomed in and using focus peaking. I didn’t detect focus shift so I left the focus at the f/2 position. I imported the raw file into ACR and set the white balance (temp all at 3800k, tint of +32, +40 and +26 for ZA, FD and kit, respectively) but kept everything else at the default values.
The magnification of the FD seems to be a little different than the Sony ZA. Usually something goes wrong but I was careful not to move the tripod when I changed the lenses; however, after processing the images I noticed that I forgot to change the zoom on the kit lens to 24mm so I had to redo those shots. I tried to move the tripod back to where it was for the other 2 lenses but it’s probably a little off. Center crops:
I feel a lot better about the FD lens now (though my adapter keeps slipping back into the open position)

I'd say the sharpness difference is negligible (after f/2). Certainly nothing a decent sharpener can't make up for in post. I'd be very curious to see how the two compare with CA and flare handling.
FD has LOTS of flare while I didn't notice any on the Zeiss. I'll post a picture later tonight of a shot directly into the sun. I haven't really tested the CA but it seems FD is worse but I'll have to check.

I think if you look at the edges of the black film strip above the stamp, the ZA looks more clearly defined.
A few from last night. All with Nokton 40 @ 2.8. I tried these wide open also, hoping to impart a little of the Nokton character into the images but it didn't pan out. I was glad I also shot at 2.8 but wished I brought the 35/2.5 instead. I think the character of Nokton works better with people than it does for this type of scenes.

freaklikeme, what version of the 90 elmarit you have?Nice colors on your #1 shot. I tried to find a reasonably priced E39 version and lucked out. In the end, settled on a 75 summarit.
It's the first M-mount version with the optical head that screws on to the helicoid/RF linkage. My plan is to eventually pick up a Summicron-M 90 vII, but this one was too cheap to pass up. And the 12-bladed aperture is hypnotic.

Thanks, I appreciate it, but please don't go out of your way just to satisfy my curiosity. If you get time, it would be nice to see.
