uhoh, unfortunately I see quite a bit of residual colour shift on your shots with the CV 21. I had hoped that you or someone else could show me the way to correct my Contax G 21 from the same troubles, because it is such a fantastic lens, which I purchased for use with the NEX...still, I can get some decent B&W from it...
outstanding shot! i'd be tempted to just think of it as a B&W only lens for a while. purposely limiting oneself can often lead to discovering new ways of working and shooting and compositions one would normally think of. the NEX is great for b&w too since you can set the lcd to b&w.
It's funny you should mention that. I'm shooting mostly B&W these days, but I've been leaving the camera set to color, since I'm used to viewfinders always being in color. Framing in B&W feels a bit odd to me.

i'm very particular about seeing what i'm going to get, plus i find colors distracting when i'm trying to think in b&w, so the b&w viewfinder helps a lot.

if you have raw and jpeg in b&w mode, the raw is left in color, which is pretty cool.
Yeah, I only shoot raw. My point is that, since any camera I've ever used prior to now has had a "color" viewfinder, I've found that shooting with a B&W LCD a little weird. Granted, I do enjoy the surprise of looking at a color image and ending up with a B&W image, and I usually only review pics once they've already been imported as B&W in LR3. In fact, I leave image review turned off on my camera, so, certainly YMMV (I usually only review images in camera to check sharpness.)
What would be cool for me (and I doubt this would ever happen) is if there was an option to make the LCD color for viewing, but make the captured image in B&W, so I could shoot in color and review in B&W...but I'm sure I'm in the minority here.
p.s. All of this being said, I find that shooting with a B&W LCD is still not all that indicative of my final B&W image, because the camera's B&W tonality settings are different than my own in the raw converter.
**edit: dasrocket, a 1:1 ratio option is my most desirable firmware option of the future.

a good point, my standard b&w conversion settings are quite different from sony's defaults. every little bit helps for me though.

the 1:1 view option doesn't excite me much without the larger sensor for a real 1:1 mode (ala panasonic), otherwise too much gets cropped out for my taste.
my most desirable firmware option would be the ability to assign whatever function i like to that useless flash button on the NEX (i'd also like the ability to switch the menu button to the bottom and have more options for how to set the current programmable buttons).
I don't believe that the 1:1 mode is any different with Panasonic. Their GH1 sensor is wider than the standard m4/3 sensor, in order to accommodate 3:2 and 16:9 while maintaining a consistent diagonal, but the height is the same, so 1:1 mode is the same as a normal m4/3 sensor.
Shooting square is exactly why I'm interested in the upcoming, fast 24mm e-mount prime. It'll be a 35mm equivalent when shooting in 3:2 ratio, and it'll be a 50mm equivalent when shooting 1:1 (approximately,) both of which are great options for their respective formats.
p.s. agreed about more button assignability. i wish that I could set soft button A to manual focus assist.

ah, i thought i had read that it had the same diagonal for all aspect ratios. guess i didn't look to closely.
Yeah, shooting square is an exercise in frustration with any digital sensor. Even the square-sensored digital backs are a significant crop from 6x6 film, making one's lens focal length's suddenly "off." My Hasselblads have been on the shelf for a while, but I really prefer square format, so I'm sucking it up and trying to put together a separate set of lenses that makes sense for my 1:1 shooting. The 24mm "standard" lens is the one that is missing for me, and, if the NEX 24mm doesn't come out in the next month or two, I'll probably consider the ZM 25/2.8... or maybe the Voigtlander 25/.95, since the corners are cropped off.
The good thing about shooting square is that it nullifies corner issues that lenses have. Even my Sony 16mm, which is around a 57mm equivalent on 6x6, does pretty well at 1:1.
Looks great. Of course, the Contax G45 is just about the perfect portrait length for shooting square, so I may have to quit talking myself out of buying it.
I'm a new NEX 3 owner who took the plunge when I saw the 2 lens kit for $599 at Costco yesterday. Look forward to this system, lots of nice pics in this thread. I am sure I will be getting a taste for Alt glass real soon. And just tried som ISO 1600 shots, even with the kit prime, I'm impressed stopped down a bit. Nice system, on par with the crop Canikons of the world.
I'll probably consider the ZM 25/2.8... .
Be careful, Douglas; I tried one on my NEX. It is a lovely lens, which reminds me of my 21 Distagon f:2.8, BUT it suffers from very substantial colour shift, which I haven't been able to correct (yet) with Cornerfix. So I declined to buy it...

Yeah, that's why I'd only want it for shooting square format, since the color shift will be minimized, but I'll probably wait on the e-mount Zeiss 24mm.

That should be the poster shot to put up in all the threads whining about the 16.
very sweet
OOOPS I thought you shot that w/ the SONY!!! OMG
ha ha, i don't think you can achieve a dof like that on any 24mm equiv lens.
my copy of the 16mm is fine for what it is - a budget pancake 24mm equiv lens. i can still get decent 8x10's out of it. just like everybody else, i'd love it if it could perform like the new nikon or zeiss 24mm (or even my old minolta 24mm), but i never expected it would.
