What is the best $500 or under lens for the NEX-5N? Looking for a something that will give me a 40-60mm equivalent with fantastic background separation/microcontrast and bokeh.

Please give me some ideas!
CV 28/2 or 1.9
CV 35/1.4
Contax G 28mm
You can go SLR and have more choices, but they are alot bigger, no matter what anyone says. All sorts of good 24 and 28 f/2s
but an ultron 28/1.9 just went for 450 tonite at RFF. The lens is controversial on the nex around here for some reason, but I found many nice samples and have heard from good shooters who are happy with it.
The contax G 28 is killer, and maybe the sharpest, just a stop slower.

THANK YOU.
How do you feel between the Contax G 28 vs. CV 35? The CV seems to be $630 everywhere... a bit more than I wanted to spend.
What's the issue with the 28 1.9 and how does it differ from the 2.0?

I'd also consider the CV 40/1.4, which can be found for quite a bit less than the 35/1.4, and some would say is sharper. The main criticism you hear is somewhat funky bokeh wide open, but it's never bothered me.
I have the Contax G 28 as well: fantastic lens, but if great background separation is what you're after, you're just not going to get it. Compared to the CV 40 at least (I've never used the CV 35), they have entirely different styles: the Contax is bright, punchy, with high contrast, while the CV's colors are less saturated.

For a lens to be controversial around here, I think it would actually have to be represented here Someone needs to buy this thing and post a bunch of samples from the 5N or 7.
There were only 1 or 2 photos posted weren't there? When you say that you found many nice samples, do you mean lenses... or samples of images *taken on NEX* ? I haven't seen too many of either actually.
Although I have seen a few of them (lenses) sold for under $500, so it should fit that requirement anyway.
I did pick up the Ultron 35 (also under $500). It's bigger and heavier than many of it's rangefinder brethren, and does not have a focus tab. It's also prone to an issue where the front of the lens becomes loose due to unscrewing filters over time... although mine does not have that problem (...yet). The Ultron 28 shares all of those qualities, and is yet larger, heavier, and a little slower.
I have not put it to task against the 35/2.5, or the 40/1.4. but I do have both of those lenses and will do so soon to form a better opinion about it.
Photographiq, I would look into the Contax G 35. It's more or less identical to a Summicron IV, and, while it isn't really the best at anything, it may be one of the better all around performers in that focal range, for the money. Although it isn't as sharp at the edges as some 35s, it's way better than the CV 35/1.4 in this regard. I've got both lenses, and the only two disadvantages of the Contax is speed and the focus ring/adapter, IMO.

he says: fantastic background seperation and bokeh under 500 at 40 or less---ha!
no such thing. The only lens you can find under 1k which truly meets this is the CV 35/1.2
I see, it has built in filters: http://www.rokkorfiles.com/16mm.html
Might not be easy to remove, possibly even part of the optical formula, but I'm no Rokkor lenses expert.
I like my Speckled Sussex mco_970, pretty tough to shoot one when it isn't moving, not had much success myself. They are either the dumbest or bravest of the bunch and I'm down to my last one accordingly. 1st shot might be a little contrasty but still nice. A lot of great shots on this page
Walking home today in the ever lasting twilight that rules this part of the world nowadays I took these with the Contax G28. All at F/4, ISO varied a bit, up to about 1250 (using S 1/50 and auto ISO). Probably oversharpened - but I am not sure so please give feedback. Let me know if you think so too. I am trying to get a hang of sharpening - these images are sharp from camera/lens, but then it's the PP and downsizing-thingy...
