This may be a lame duck question but I don't know the answer because I'm so accustomed to shooting with manual settings...

When the lens is not communicating the maximum aperture to the camera, does the metering become unreliable? Do most of you shoot in either A or S, and not M? I have been shooting in M with the live histogram as a guide which has seemed reliable, I spent a little time tinkering around in aperture priority but it seemed that my images were constantly underexposed.

I think it does fine in A. I've seen a few wonky exposures, but it's usually pretty close. The only problem is when it starts getting dark, and shutter speed is set to 1/60. Gotta realize when that happens and switch to S, auto ISO.

Edit: Heh, didn't read the discussion about this above.

Beautiful photos, especially the colors of 5N with all the exotic lenses.

Great shots up there, some hard to see under huge watermarks, hehe. If they are that valuable you might want to keep them in a safe

uhoh7, you have some nice photos there. After trying many FD lensen, I only kept 3, 85mm f1.2L, 35mm f2 SSC concave, and the 24mm f2. I would probobly also buy the 50mm f1.2 L or 55mm f1.2 SSC Asph, and maybe the 135mm f2 if I got them cheap.

You know the best

here cv 75 again:

below: been missing the summilux 50 i traded from my summicron, so today I took a late 50s Canon LTM 50/1.4, which is considered very similar.

not quite, but respectable.

Above, the greatest pre-slr lens made by Canon, the LTM 85/1.8, if I am not mistaken it is Canon's first telephoto. Thats wide open at 1/50. This is one of my four or five sharpest lenses- if held and focused properly, hehe. It's considered a match for any modern 85. 3000 made. I'm very lucky to have found it for 300USD, right here Thanks Fred!

I now have three of the four Canon LTM 85s, 1.5, 1.8 and the gorgeous 1.9

Not a tele, it's one of the very few truly mint lenses I've ever bought. So many blades you can't count them Weighs 610 grams. Needs a workout!

Your Planar looks good, Jeff. Definitely seems sharper than my new ZM 50/1.5 at f2.

Thanks! - The first one was at F2 but the second at 5.6, so that one better be sharp.

NIce stuff.

Speaking of the Planar.. I have one, and also happen to have the new Sony NEX 50mm f/1.8 to compare against it. I'll get around to posting some comparison pix relatively soon, but bottom line seems to be that stopped down, they're very close in performance. Wide open the ZM has less vignetting, as would be expected because it's a FF lens, and a bit better sharpness/micro contrast. Another difference is that the Planar's rendering of out of focus specular highlights is with more 'character' than the Sony, which is quite smooth. Considering the price though, the Sony is a pretty reasonable lens.

But for now, here are a couple with the Voigtlander 15mm on the NEX-5N. I pretty much relegated the 15 to special use on the M9 because of the strong edge color shift, though the latest firmware did improve that situation somewhat. Sure, I could use cornerfix, but my feeling was that it flattened the character of the files. Anyway, surprise, surprise to me, the 15 works great on the 5N, even if it looks terrible in Steve Huff's NEX-7 test.

The flip screen came in really handy here and makes the camera really easy to shoot like a waist level finder, but shooting verticals off the display is a pain. Really need that EVF...

Here's one with the Voigtlander Nokton 40/1.4, which doesn't always get the respect it deserves:

I just received a 15 Heliar, and I haven't gotten a chance to shoot with it properly, but I can already say that the CV 15 with the Hawk's Helicoid adapter is a ridiculously fun combination. You can get some ridiculous shots.

I'm still not sure, something doesn't seem right about some of those "test shots". I'm still reserving my judgement on the NEX 7.

Honestly though I love my 5N with EVF. Only thing I don't like is not being able to use a flash and the EVF at the same time. I mostly use my Canon 550d and 430EX when I need to use flash, but I'd like to have more flash options (esp while using the EVF) with the NEX.

Do you know if this EFV is the same as in the Nex 7?

I'm with you Michael; I want a hot shoe free for flash or a wireless trigger. A camera like the NEX-7 looks like it can be a multi-purpose workhorse for me, provided it doesn't destroy edge (or centre!) details when I mount my ZM wide angles on it. I'm looking to / am already in the process of getting rid of several camera bags worth of gear and centralize my gear around more portable platforms and the 7 is probably the first camera that I've seen that had the potential to help me there.

What will undoubtedly happen is some thoroughly meticulous and curious photographer will get a 7 in and do an authoritative test just a camera ships and my credit card is dinged for the 7 I have on pre-order. Hopefully the result of that test won't cause me to put the camera up on eBay unopened.

In the meantime I do have a line on a 5N and EVF which may or may not be around in two weeks time when the 7 is supposed to have shipped to me. When in doubt buy both?

Yes, it is the very same technology. Also the same as used in the new Alpha SLT DSLRs.
