f/8 usually focuses on my MKIII with even stacked combos, so hoping it will. although Canon does claim each new teleconverter will slow down focus, I believe they said with the 2x it will slow by a certain percentage on purpose to allow the camera to focus properly. I do have a non reporting 2x which quality isn't great but it does autofocus on the MKIII also. It's the 7D one would have trouble with. You are right, cameras DO make a difference! And the D series are great with them. My 7D used to hunt all over the place. Sold it.
