I use this for my monolights:

along with a pin in the grip. For lighter stands, I use Manfrottos.

Kawaskiguy, I just received tonight the Avenger A4039CS. It's a beast, never seen something built so strong. it is heavy but will probably support anything you need.
I do have an issue with it supporting an AcuteB with a 22" BDand grid. I think I need something else at the end of the boom to avoid rotation.

I've got that boom and is decent for the size and cost. I use it regularly to hold a Elinchrom Bx500 and a 4' softboox as an overhead main light when shooting bikes. I trust it indoors but would be concerned about stability using the same setup outdoors. I think a BD would work really well with it. Extends pretty high/long and the combi setup is very convenient as "regular" light stand when the boom is not needed. Good counterweighting and ballasting is key to making it work effectively. It does get awkward once its fully loaded and boomed.

I also have the Avenger 4050CS http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/204456-REG/Avenger_A4050CS_A4050CS_Junior_Boom_Stand.html . It is a much heavier (3 times heavier) but with almost twice the weight capacity for in-studio work. Not as portable but solid. The cost is roughly $100 more than the A475.

Lots of stands to choose from and depends on the max height you need. If you stick with the common brand names in your price point, you should be okay. Some pack down smaller than others (Manfrotto Nano, Matthews Reverse) but usually don't have the reach that the others have. I have a couple of these when I'm traveling light and don't need a lot of height. I'm still using the same set of cheap elinchrom stands that came with my D-lites with no problems.

Try an Avenger E700 Baby Drop Down Pin.

Yea, drop down is really needed! I figure with a good stake/screw in the ground this thing should be fine for outdoors. Its semi portable at least (10lbs)
