not only for this reason, but also because we will not be visible in windows reflection when shooting in night in restaurants or mirrors in bathroom or at hair studio, etc ect.
Too bad they are available only relatively slow 3.5 or 2.8...

it does bad, just skilled photographer balances it
Definitely a skilled photographer, but I don't think the 35G was designed with sports being a major influence on it's design. It's a great portrait lens and great for event photography. Plenty fast enough in those areas. Definitely nikon's best offering as far as a 35mm f/1.4 is concerned

yep, at least until our waiting for that AF-S Nikkor 35f2 VR with OMG AF speed and 62mm filters will be satisfied.
Got mine this evening from JR. The packing was even less inspirational than that of amazon's. Without even a test, I took it out to a photo shoot along with my Singh-ray VariND filter in the hope that I could still shoot at wide open even in the presence of studio strobes.
Long story short, I was initially shoot AF-S, then later changed to shoot AF-C with Focus Priority, using AF-On to lock focus. However, even for stationary subject, no single image's got sharp focus at wide open in the presence of VariND filter. After some shots, I simply took off the VariND filer and start to shoot wide open in ambient light at ISO 1600 shutter speed 1/100. Nothing came out sharp again. Really pissed, of course. So I started to dial in different values for AF Fine Tune +/- sides from 5 , 10 , 15 to 20. That didn't help neither.
I put the PW on the hotshoe start to shoot f/8 to f/11, 1/250s for the shutter speed. And this time focus was nailed every shot. I am planning to have it either exchanged or returned. To shoot at f/8 or f/11, I don't really need this $1800 prime because my 24-70 can do the job just fine. Thank you, Nikon, very much.
Anyway, here is one that AF worked but not shot at wide open though.
yea QC of nikon really suck last times, i got burned lot by it, but mine 35 after some AF adjust works perfect.
Too bad you are out of luck with cameras like D90 (would i ever wish to use it as walkaround lens).
