p.5 #1 · Do you hate your 16-35mm Mark II?

I bought one from the forum here to upgrade my mark I. It sucked. it really did. decentered, with soft spots off center, worse than my mark I. Made two trips back to canon, came back slightly improved but still sucked. So I managed to dump it on canon for a new one. I actually was so paranoid that I got two copies of the new one to compare. and they both performed very similarly, and both did well. this was during the rebate, and I sold one of them brand new for 1340 to someone on POTN who met me face to face, and he was ecstatic.
Now, I have this and the Nikon 14-24. I would say from 16-18 mm, I can definitely tell the difference at f 5.6 between the two. but canon is acceptable. I can say I can often even tell the difference at f11, but its very slight, and this is on pixel peeping, and the very end of the corner. past 18, stopped down, it is great. I am using both on a 5d2. that much said, I find myself reaching for the 16-35 often b/c it takes filters, and is less flare prone.
I have a thread with comparison shots with nikon 14-24, with pixel peeping for corners, which I can provide a link to if someone is interested.
the lens also has a slight field curvature with the corners sharper in close field.

16mm, f 6.3, iso 800, 1/20 sec, hand held. a lot of wind, so I could not do a long tripod exposure

Those are very nice landscapes. Appreciate if you would email or PM me the link your lens tests/comparison. Thanks!

If I can find one as good as yours I would be more than happy to trade my Nikon for the Canon ... but I am not willing to go through several copies in the hope of finding a good copy.

I have an MK1 that I enjoy when I actually use it, but then again I've not scrutinized it at the corners at 100% yet, and have no intents too...if I do I'll probably want to send it in EVEN IF it's 100% fine lol.

Nice images everyone. Last time I used a 16-35 was pre-MKII. I used it with my EOS-3 and I liked it. Seemed sharp through out the whole frame. Now all this talk is getting me wanting one!

Thanks Bob. at 2.8 the corners are not good by any means. by 5.6 I would say they are acceptable, and by f11 very good. here is the link to comparison I did.
