p.2 #1 · Smugmug, Zenfolio or?

Well here is my 2 cents. I have had smug mug for a couple of years, and I'm thinking of going to bluehost or Go daddy etc. or whatever to make my own.
I just can't understand why I have over 12k hits per month for many months in a row and no sales, none. how many hits does it normally take to get an inquiry?. I have no problem selling my pics to people that I meet and send to my site to pick from but nothing comes through smugmug. Is it really that hard to develop your own site. Anyone have any advice on Bluehost or FatCow as a host??
Thanks Randall

I have used Smugmug for a couple of years and I think they do a pretty decent job. There are lots of customizing options if you know what you are doing. The next best thing is to hire a private outfit to do everything for you.

My website is here: www.EwertNaturePhotography.com

Good luck,
Daniel

Not to get side tracked here, but it is related; for those of you that have been with Zenfolio for a while, how do you like the mPix printing and finishing services? The one thing I don't like is that in order to use their "professional level" printing (mPix Pro)with more options, like fine art gallery wraps, you have to upgrade to the Zenfolio Business Model for $250/yr, and I've noticed that Bay Photo does the same for Smugmug for $150/yr.

It's not like I have a lot of clients looking for those specific options, but it's nice to not have to go outside your ecommerce system to use a vendor like WHCC, then handle the payment yourself.

Honestly, if WHCC were affiliated with a hosting site, I'd give them serious consideration.

Any thoughts?

Greg

The help on smugmug (dgrin.com) --- particularly around customization --- has really gone downhill. When I first built my site, the help was great and unbelievably fast. But after tackling a recent redesign, it was painful. At best, you can look forward to a 24 hour turnaround and after trolling through the help section, you'll see that some folks have been waiting for even longer. And frankly, the worst part is that the tone is increasingly "less than supportive."

FWIW.

Hi, thanks for that feedback - it's really like gold and I'm so glad you posted this. I'd love to discuss this with you more, and find out more about how you feel we're falling short, and talk about ways in which we can improve things - if you're up for that, shoot me a note at our help desk ATTN: Andy, thanks.
