The worst kind of humor, you pay a premium of $1000 and save the trouble of buying a $30 plug in, marvelous decision mate.

Most people are quite content using DPP or Adobe Bridge or Lightroom to browse photo collections anyhow.
These plug ins are only necessary for folder thumbnails and only on 64 bit operating systems.

A new MacBook is $949 while a 21" iMac is $1149. Not much of a premium. And that little 21" iMac friggen rips for PS, DPP and LR.

This looks pretty good, though it's $14.95 - Not $9.95

Got a Mac and a Logitech mouse and want to use all the handy buttons buy a $30 program. Glad I didn't buy a Mac At least this problem has a free fix. Seems every time your precious Mac has a support issue it costs you another $30 there's a app for that just get out the credit card.

WOW, I know I'm impressed.
Your soo right, in fact there is probably not any windows laptop or PC on the planet that can come close to the speed and price your MAC laptop right!?

FYI, a ASUS Windows 7 laptop for $699 has the same hardware specs and your $949 MAC.

I also have one of those nice Windoze RB's for work (I call it an RB instead of a PC - as in Re-Boot, which it requires several times a day, just to keep up with the never-ending stream of Windows "security updates") - it's a top-of-the-line, fully loaded Dell, and I find it quite hilarious that my little three year old $600 refurbished MacBook runs circles around it...

But, I imagine those same people believe a Chevy Cavalier Z-34 is a better car than a Mercedes Benz C230 or Audi A4 because it has "better specs"...

Hmm... you could be right... but I switched to Mac three and a half years ago, and haven't had a single support issue yet - but then that was one of the reasons for switching in the first place.

Oh, and by the way, I have a Logitech mouse and a Logitech trackball, both of which were simply plug-and-play with my Macs - I didn't even have to install the Logitech software... you must have been doing something wrong with yours.

It's called "Patch Tuesday" officially by Microsoft, so everyone can schedule around and for it.
Windows only released updated once a week and not every OS version or application has an update each week.
Most often the updates are to update the security for a new hack someone is writing.
Apple/MAC releases plenty of updates for the same things, whether you run those updates or not is up to you.
You can also turn off the Microsoft update system and most likely it will improve the reliability of a steady machine.

I think it's hilarious and also telling of your personalities that you exaggerate as much to say that you reboot 3 times each day for windows updates, when they are only released once a week.

I don't know where you get the idea that your Dell has better specs than your MAC; though I doubt you have the aptitude to even know.
Mostly Dell is the bottom of the barrel for PC's and you are comparing that to an expensive MAC.
So yea it's not likely to perform as well.

I bought the ap for whatever it cost at the time, like maybe $40? It's my first stage of workflow as I can very quickly jam through photos and assign them to a "keepers" bin for RAW processing. The program doesn't "do" a lot, but that's the whole point. Let's you very quickly look @ 100% and 300% for general sharpness and then either copy to another folder to process or delete the file.

another vote for Breezebrowser (which can also view layered PS files, by the way, although the huge ones take a while to render, very useful IMO) BB also allows you to send a photo right to 2 different editors, I have PS and DPP as my two choices, just a right click away. Plus batch renaming, RAW conversion, and all of that good stuff. Anyways, never been a fan of viewing photos in Windoze.

And I just picked up an Asus 13.3" laptop for $699. Excellent little computer.

Ah, just let him pop in a blu-ray disk and play that natively on his mac.

Faststone is an incredible program. Been using it for years. It has great batch renaming and resizing tools too.

Only thing I did wrong is plug it into a machine running Snow Leopard works fine on my Seven box. Logitech 518 gaming mouse Google it, you must buy Steermouse to use all the buttons. 8 Button functions plus a scroll wheel, I know a few too many options for the average Mac user but I like it.

By the way if your rebooting a computer 3 times a day for updates that are scheduled once a month the problem is not the computer or OS. The problem exists between the keyboard and the chair

Canon's failure to bother supporting the 64 bit operating system cannot possibly last much longer.

As of July, 46% of all windows 7 activations were 64 bit and new sales are more heavily biased towards 64 bit. The projections are that in mid 2011, 32 bit windows 7 will become the minority.

It simply does not make sense for a company that has a technically advanced customer base to ignore the platform.

On Windows Server 2008 R2, same as Win7 64-bit without the bloat, I use FastPictureViewer codec v1.7 for RAW thumbnails in explorer. Works great for Canon thumbnails, but supports many others.

Current version is 2.5. I believe 1.7 was free at one time, so searching for it you should be able to find it. If not, current version runs about $15 I believe.

The really annoying thing is that I have a friend who sends me .NEF files all the time and they display fine in x64Win7 in just Explorer, but I can't see .CR2 files without a 3rd party codec or viewing software.

So much for Canon customer care.

Apart from Breezebrowser there's photomechanic.

Well win 7 has only been out for 12 months, what do you expect from Canon? I expect support when win 8 ships in 2012.

My 5 year old Futitsu runs circles around my new MacBookPro even with an SSD installed. Mac Crap. Limited raw support. Ilife11 corupting database. Mac snuck in sata 1 downgrade to correct overheating problem with sata2. Last mac I'll ever buy.
Anyway People keep buying Canon even if they don't support 64 bit. Send them a letter, eveyone MAY help.

Hmm.. Last time I had a mac it did software updates as well.... so I'm not sure why all the Mac users are complaining about windows updates. Yes windows is more vulnerable but mostly because it isnt worth wring virus' for computers that are only 10% or so of the marketshare... and even less in the business environment.
