If anyone can share portrait shots at 35mm/f4 wide open, I would really appreciate it. Doesn't really matter if its DX or FX. Thanks so much.

a few recent 16-35 shots all with fairly long exposures for being hand-held....1/1 --> 1/10 or so. Great lens, the VR is MUCH more useful than I expected. I haven't tried portraits yet.....

Thank you,how about the portraits? Have you taken any portraits? I was wondering if they look too cartoonish....

I haven't....but if a 35 f/2 at f/4 looks cartoonish to you I would guess this one would too It should be fine, though the long end of this lens is not the sharpest. The prime range of this lens is from about 18-28

look at this thread from dpreview, a guy shot a wedding with a 16-35vr and you'll get a sense of how people look in the photos if they are not far enough from the lens..

it's a great photo but her left-arm (from the viewer's perspective) is bigger than her right arm.. kinda grotesque looking if you ask me..

Thank you,

Those are nice pics and the link is very useful...However Im still concerned about the 16 mm portraits .It works really nice for landscape though...VR must be very impressive as far as I've seen.

Is that with a full frame FX body?

I am hoping that the distortion won't be so pronounced with a DX body.

By the way, how's sharpness of the lens at 35mm wide open? Dpreview review suggests that it is the softest spot of the lens, of which I suspect that I will use quite often on a DX body.

Absolutely, that's what using a 16mm focal length for portratits is not "usually" recommended... parts of the body that are closer to the camera will be significantly bigger than part that are farther, causing that distorsion. That's exactly the point.

That photo was done with a D700, so FX sensor.
