"Artistic" in what sense? The dark corners? Because that's all I am seeing.
I think a well done vignette always adds a nice look to the image. I think the other part of the artistic look is the fact that on FX, this is a pretty wide fast lens, which Nikon doesn't have a lot of. The images it renders are just different I think.
Geez and all this time it's been sitting in its pouch and I could have been playing more with it on a D700? And here I thought it would be useless on anything but my D5000. I got to get busy..
Well Naude, you did it for me. I was wanting to buy this lens a while ago, but since I'm planning to go fullframe as soon as Nikon releases the D3s sensor in D700 format (keeping fingers crossed), I was going back and forth with the 35mmF2.0 and this one. I have the D300 with tons of lenses already.
You post made me just order this lens. My birthday is one Sunday, so I thought I'll buy this as a present to myself. Wonderfull pictures.
For the people who posted shots (very nice by the way), or anyone else who has tried the 1.8 on a d700, does the 35 1.8 handle filters, cp or nd to be specific, decent on the d700? My d700 hopefully is coming in the mail this week so can't see for mysefl till then. Just wondering bad vignetting gets.
The 50mm 1.4D is pretty much my full-time lens whenever I go sidewalk shooting. I love the small package and the ability to shoot in absolutely no light.
But I have to say, the 14-24 and the 24-70 always come with me in my bag when I'm out in the field.
I have not been happy with any results from DX lenses with my D700 or D3. But I have not tried the 35mm.
I am clutching my 22 year old 70-210 f/4.5 lens until the end of the earth — it's the sharpest glass I own and it's worth about $80 on consignment!
-18/2.8 AF-D. Killer performance (highly underrated), small package, sturdy build.
-28/2.0 AIS. Just an amazing little lens. Very very sharp, beautiful bokeh, just a great great lens. Should have kept mine!!
-35/1.4 AIS. Not as sharp as the 28/2, but a stop faster. Very reasonably sized.
-50/2.0 AI. Optically perfect. <$50 quite often.
-5.8/1.4 NAI. TONS of character, very sharp center frame.
those are all great walkaround primes for the D700, IMO.
