I'm not quite sure what they are but it is diagramatically attractive. If you look long enough at it you get the impression that it's some kind of staircase.
Thank you for the compliments, Bill. I thought long before choosing the markers depicted. There are 130 sticks in the complete set, and deciding on precise, complementary tints was a fun challenge.
In addition, I really sought to push the portrayal of an otherwise simple gradient. So, I staggered them for intrigue, but also to complement the angular quality of the surface beneath. Discovering the three-dimensional depth afterward was a nice consolation.
The markers are called ad™, by Chartpak, and are industry standard amongst commercial illustrators. Each color value is a Pantone chip, and corresponds to the PMS swatch books used in many creative industries (especially printing). To equate it to digital photography standards: these are 'calibrated' markers, haha.
Terrific photo John. Looks like you are mastering the whole lighting thing. I like the composition. Like Bill said, the organizer has an interesting staircase effect to it.
