Hi Paul.
I am aware that this is not really a Einstein question but really more of a modifier area of question.
It seems as if you during recent time put a lot of effort towards very cool modifiers (and cheap ones at that).
Me personally am very much in love with Fresnel lights and projections spots and are daily using tungsten light to this effect.
Have you been toying with the idea to produce anything to that type of light modifiers for the Einsteins, Bees or the WL lights.
I can imagine that there is a whole bunch of owners of your lights perusing ebay for used Balcar fresnels and spots.
Since you have managed to do large parabolic reflectors to a fraction of the price of a Bron Para or Briese Focus I was hoping you might turn your interest in that direction as well.
Your sincerely
Karl
This comes up all the time, but there is little demand for fresnels. What do you want them to do - - - create a spotlight effect, or project images? I did a lot of testing of this early on and found a decent projection unit really requires a glass lens and point-source flash tube. Plastic fresnel lenses have to be placed really far out in front of the light and don't do much for me. For fresnel spotlight effects, Retro Laser will give far better results.
Retro Laser at 11° looks like an 11°‚ gridded light at any distance. Up close the 22" diameter produces a bigger coverage circle than 11° would imply . . . physics of size vs angle. It has a grid lip, but we haven't made any grids because they would require a center hole for the light and would cost mere than the reflector. But it really doesn't need a grid as the cutoff is pretty absolute. I'm getting f16 at 40' with Einstein GN 640.
Thank you for letting me know, to bad you will not do it, I for one do like them but my usage is not really what you are describing.
The fresnels I use is mainly to get a beauty light and can probably be replaced with beauty dish or gridded lights but the Zoom spots I use to get a sharp edge light similar to a ellipsoid spot (I hope I spelled that right) or shape it with a mask for a very specific lighting effect.
I think I will have to check out the Retro Laser though, I did not think of it as a more defined light only a stronger light.
Hmmm more shopping to do......
Thanks Paul for your answer.
In the meantime, check this fresnel spot adaptor. Pretty large lens, not bad at this price tag.

The Einstein warranty is 2 years compared to White-Lightning's 5 years. Are there going to be more White-Lightnings in the future with the Einstein technology?
Probably not. White Lightning is one product line, AlienBees is one product line and Einstein is one product line. Would GM put Corvette technology in a minivan? This would just blur the lines.

So, it sounds like the roadmap for White-Lightning is dead. Did you consider putting a handle at the back of the Einstein to make it easier to adjust?
I've seen some comments on the screws on the front interfering with the modifiers. Any validity to this?
Hi Paul. I plan on getting 2 Einstein heads, along with 2 VagabondII batteries. All the testing i've seen so far has been mains powered. Could you tell me the recycle times for a full power pop while plugged into a Vagabond?
One (very minor) frustration I've come up with related to Cyber Commander is that the default workflow seems to be centered on making the CC the boss and the Einsteins the slaves. That of course is sensible, but it would be nice if the reverse direction was easy to implement as well.
In other words, I find often myself adjusting monolights manually as the simplest method given a certain scenario. It would be nice if the Cyber Commander had a quick way to update from the Einsteins. The current setup simply recommands them, thereby losing the adjustment just made. You need to go through a several-step process to re sync from "the studio" (as the menu is called) to avoid this.

I believe if you don't want CC to lose your manual settings on the Einstein when you go to turn on the CC, you will need to change the channel on the Einstein as well. Then if you like your manual setup, you can select your Einstein's new channel on the CC and make a new save.
Of course bravinneff, all this would be a nice work flow if were done automatically as you discribed(both units talking to each other).

All you have to do is make your manual adjustments on the Einstein back panel, then do "open all from studio" and there they are on the CC.
