- a Kenko 1.4x TC should arrive on Monday ... and I hope to borrow a friends Canon 1.4x TC later in the week ... so I'm curious to do the shootout myself ... but sounds like will be quite comparable.
Nice to hear other people's point of view - thanks for sharing.
I have both the Kenko and the Canon 1.4x converters. I got both so that I could stack them. I use them interchangeably. I can't tell the difference between the two.
The Kenko 1.4x DGX TC has been proven to be significantly better than the Canon one however Kenko has some issues as far as design, because it's a 3rd party teleconverter. You may need to tape down the last 3 pins on some lenses or it will provoke some electronics issues and cause problems with autofocus. Also they released a defective model and only this week did the new ones with fixed electronics come in, as far as I know B&H is the first to have this revised model.

Yes, I am one of the first B&H customers to receive the revised model.
It's the updated MC4 DGX that works with my new 100 f/2.8L HIS macro lens.
AF is flawless: as good as the bare lens.
The bad: it's optically worse than my old Tamron 1.4x TC. The borders are hopeless and the center is not as sharp. I manually focused the combo on a tripod just to be sure AF is not the cause. Tamron TC has perfect optical quality when matched with the 100 HIS macro lens. However, AF does not really work well... lots of pulsations. Sigh..
And Canon's own 1.4x TC is incompatible with the new HIS macro lens.
