You're allowed to go to Cuba. That's not what the law says. Under your freedom of travel, you are permitted to go to Cuba.
What you're not allowed to do is spend any US money there. The US gov forbids you to financially trade with Cuba in any way. That is the catch.
I've done a lot of research on Cuba for the documentary. Fidel did some questionable things when he took over, like 'stealing' back US interests/property/businesses. The US retaliated, then the missile crisis, then the bay of pigs... all really interesting stuff... but it still feels that the USA is being overly harsh.
Did you know, that if you're a boat and you go to any Cuban port, you're not allowed to visit the USA for 6 months? That has killed most of the importing, since who would want to trade with little Cuba only to lose ability to trade with the USA.
With USA blocking from the outside, and Fidel blocking from the inside (no internet, it's hard to leave Cuba, no free press - not that FOX is free press ha! - etc.,) it's really made it hard for the Cubans.
While down there, i thought of them a bit like a beautiful bird. Cubans are a beautiful caged bird.
So, when Raśl passes... what's next? That's part of the angle for my documentary.
Great series. Cuba is a gem for the photographer. I can't wait to make it over there with my cameras. Sounds like you will have an interesting documentary. What will come next for Cuba? Nothing stays the same, I feel hopeful, Cuba is a land of resilient people but tragically, the U.S. has played the role of a bully in the history of that small island nation.
It still annoys me that as Americans we aren't permitted to go to Cuba. Maybe that will change soon.
And yet we boast about being the land of the free and the home of the brave, yet big brother dictates where we can and cannot go. Thankfully for me, because I have family there, and other reasons, big brother allows it. That whole situation with the embargo is dated, it is a falied policy. Normal trade relations with Cuba are long overdo.

Yes, indeed. A quite dated and failed policy, decades past its "sell by date". It is anachronistic and blind.
Really nice work here, particularly the indoor set shots, the image above the city, etc.
I spent 10 days in Cuba (I'm American) in 2004, driving from East to West, tip to tip. Without a camera! Stupid, Stupid.
I'd love to go back again... drink Mulata rum on the malecon with the trouble-makers, eat questionable peso pizza, and talk about how silly the standoff between our two countries is.
Very nice set. I , too, 've got hooked on the zuiko after seeing the 18mm thread and now this. Unfortunately my luck hasn't come so I am still out looking for one
