For me {mr. nitpicker} I would say its focused on her hands and not your face. Darn close though.
Actually, I'm pretty sure my eyeballs are in the same plane as her hands, but I don't have the full-size image handy to verify that.
I'll give her a few more years of practice before I get too critical of her skills, but I can't offer the same for anyone who calls him/herself a photographer.
With some practice, this actually becomes quite easy. I'm not just saying that to get people worked up. I actually find it easier and more pleasurable than AF.
In the shot above, I was just out for a stroll with my dog and "saw" a shot I wanted. I just told him to sit, put the camera to my face, composed, talked to him a bit to get his attention, looked straight at his eyes, focused and released the shutter. It really can be that easy.

you keep posting snaps to explain to other photographers how to use a 2K lens and how to use the wrong way (by the way)?
A little open mindedness would do you well. Since when has MF been the "wrong way" to use any lens with MF capabilities? Don't you think that MF ring was put there by Canon for a reason
You're not forced to use it if you don't want to, but I think most people here are intelligent enough to make an informed decision on spending $40 for an Ee-s screen to give it a try. Trying new things, an out of ordinary approach, last time I looked this is considered to be a pretty fundamental act of growing - being as a photographer or otherwise.
Some people AF, some people MF, some people use both. Whats the big deal? Neither is necessarily wrong or right. If you can successfully/accurately MF with a lens like the 85L more power to you.

the point is that the dof with that lens wide open hand-holding is so short that any kind of focus will likely fail from the moment is obtained to the moment the shutter is pressed, adding that the movement itself of the finger pressing it will change the distance.
That is a load of s**t. The DOF depends on distance as well as aperture, and even then at MFD it is possible to manually focus and get the intended shot.

but giving that MF all the time idiotic advice and spreading pictures like the fanatics do ('cause they can't wait to show the pictures to somebody, even resized , even in a forum full of photographers who may have the same lens) is idiotic as well
Don't worry about the EXIF or the web sized images, Paul is the real deal, he isn't pretending, and many he has been backed up by quite a few in this regard.

the OP wanted to know which is better between one-shot and servo, by the way. I say that for critical focus and no tripod servo is the better hope to get the focus where we want it (with that lens wide open). and based on my experience of course.

You are really doing a good job of making yourself look like a fool, with the apparent lack of photographic knowledge and poor writing skills as well. You would best serve yourself letting it go...
And physical threats, as empty as they are on a public forum, are not cool.

Mat
For anyone who may have missed it, Mat is referring to the fact that Markle went into a rage and threatened me, further displaying not only his ignorance, but also a tendency towards violent outbursts.
Fred deleted the post, of course, yet Markle continues to make me the target of his unjustified rage.

Glad I missed that. Seems like Fred has taken appropriate action.
Paul, I'll remind you of an old Kenyan saying: "Although the village people scream and shriek and make all kinds of loud noises, the elephants follow their path calmly and steadily."

Agreed. Being the original poster I can say that I am unhappy with what has happened within this post, but happily will be using the advise of cogitech and shooting with my new ees focus screen this weekend. I guess I am an elephant!

Twice actually, once yesterday and again this morning. Looks like Fred removed all his posts this time though.

Indeed, you are. I wish you the best of luck and I apologize for participating in that argument with Markle. I should have simply ignored him.
Practice with the new focus screen and so far very happy with my mf results. The freedom to focus on anything in the viewfinder without selecting a particular focus point is in a word exhilarating. Looking forward to exploring this new/old way of shooting. At least RG wont rain on my manual focus parade!
