Dan - probably miss you by a day... ill be there 24-27.

There is a very good chance that I'll try to camp at Stovepipe (or, less likely, near Furnace Creek) on the 26th - so keep an eye out if you happen to be around there. If past history is a guide, there is a good chance I'll arrive around 3:00 and set up camp before going off to do an evening shoot.

Of course, if conditions look great for the Racetrack (to be determined by cloud conditions) I _might_ just go straight out there on the first night!

I'll be there 20-22. Looks like we're all going at different times. Have fun. I'll post some photos when I get back.

Just a quick comment about Beatty, it is in NV, not CA and the difference in the price of gas at Furnace Creek and Beatty is about $US1 or more per gallon. Beatty is about 3-4k feet elevation and there is a rest stop on the assent that offers a great view of DV. I also got some pix of burros just outside of Beatty, and it was worth a stop at Rhyolite (located about a mile from Beatty) which was the largest town in DV in the day. It is a ghost town now and is the location of

On this topic, I often make a run out to Rhyollite very early on one morning when I go to DV, with a plan to be there before dawn and ready to shoot when the light starts to arrive. After shooting there for a few hours I head over to Beatty - a very short drive - and take advantage of that much cheaper gas that you mentioned, and often stop in one of the restaurants (or casinos) for a decent breakfast. (Since I camp in DV, the dietary change of pace is welcome.)

I often couple the Rhyolite/Beatty early morning visits with a return to DV via Titus Canyon, an absolutely stunning drive. (Do check out the conditions if you haven't done this before - the road is entirely gravel and is somewhat steep in a few sections. The DEVA folks probably recommend four-wheel high-clearance vehicles. My Subaru Outback handles it just fine.)
