Just an observation.
I've been looking for a Rebel T1i body.
No one seems to have any in stock - only the kits.
I wonder if the lack of inventory means something else is in the works.

I haven't waded through all this thread, so apologies if this has been mentioned already ... A while ago there was buzz about a 24-70L II - anybody think it might be forthcoming or was that entirely fictitious?
Many claimed that is fictitious just a year ago, some who are not watching the market closely may still feel that way, but things have recently changed...
Nikon has improved both their 24-70 and 70-200 in the past year. Canon definitely does want to remain competitive and WILL update both lenses at some point. The only questions now are when and exactly how they are going to implement. We might see one of them this time or in 6 months, followed by the other 6 months later.
When Canon started losing market share due to the D300, out came the 7D. Canon knows they must respond and they will, and as always it will be "just good enough" to regain market share but not necessarily be everything we want it to be. They still want to sell lots of different lenses, not just a few great ones.
It's a bit early to see a 500D replacement, the 500D hasn't even been on the market for a year yet! It would be surprising to see it being replaced, unless Canon replaces the XXD series with a higher spec XXXD series camera.

No it isn't too early for a replacement. The 500D replaced the 450D after the 450D was on the market for only a year. If the new Rebel comes out in May as rumoured, then it would be in that year timeframe for upgrading the Rebel class.

+1. Not only that but even the 40D, arguably the best xxD body to date, was replaced after only a year in the xxD slot.
There's no Nikon d700 replacement for some time. Just lots of new coolpix at nikon press conference tomorrow. I think Canon will milk the 5dii for at least the rest of 2010.
Speaking of P&Ss, I'd actually like to see the G12 announced, as I'm interested to see where they are going to go with that - but, despite the fact that the G11 was a relatively limited remake, I think it's still too early.
Maybe also a small Oly PEN (i.e. not dSLR) type body with an ef lens mount.
or perhaps, a full frame body small as GF-1 with EF lens mount, which I would sell my 5D immediately.
New camera:
Rebel 2Ti, 18 MP
Seems to be the same kit price as the 1Ti -
Although I don't know what the body will go for as no one has one yet.
The 1Ti is still listed on the website.
The 1Ti kit is now $100 cheaper.
