Heh, yeah, well, I think the whole iso debate is blown out of proportion on the internet. mainly it's about handling in post and correct exposure. I'm by no means an expert but the D3x @ 1600 certainly gives acceptable result for everyone but pixel-peepers specifically looking for noise and people cropping hard, i.e. people that are technicians/gearheads over photographers. the few comparisons I've seen and imo, the D3x does better than the D600 at 1600 (similar amount of noise, but far more organic and natural "grainlike"). not, obviously, beyond that though
This was the first night time shoot with my new Nikon D810 and Zeiss 25/2.8 ZF.2 setup. I previously used Canon 5D3 / 1D X and most of my auroras were shot with an old F-Distagon 15/2.8 Fisheye (which fell into a lake) and the Distagon 21/2.8 ZE. I was a few days away from getting the Zeiss 15/2.8 ZF.2 but since the Milvus introduction I'm both pissed and excited at the same time. I'd hate investing almost $3k into a lens that will be superseded next year probably by a fancier model. Anyways! Here's one frame from the Zeiss 25/2.8 which I've dreamt on getting for years. More frames in the above link Thanks for looking!
