Jim, nice to meet you here in the Zeiss thread! Beautiful results with the ZF100.
Thanks eardrumbuzz and Akul! It's nice to be remembered. Time runs fast on the web and especially this thread speeds it up even more. Seems light years to me since I contributed last time.
Akul, great use of the ZF21! Hope you didn't get wet in the middle.
eardrumbuzz, it's a joy to see your pictures with the ZF28. The lens is something else, one of my favorites from the ZF line.
Just for the fun as I had a pair of blackbirds breeding in my yard for the third time this year, the nest being directly at my backdoor, ZF28, f/4:
Robert S - Quite a definition with the statue shot
eardrum - Great shot with 28. I really like the #2
Jim - Very nice color and texture
Oldmiller - That is a great capture. I also like the horizontal crop.
Some waterfall shots. Weather was hard for extreme high contrast in some shots. Don't have ND filters, which would help to slow down shutter, but won't do any for the contrast part.
#1 ZF21
#2 ZF35
#3 ZF35
#4 ZF35
#5 Just for fun. Tried out a pano with ZF21 in portrait position 6 images stitched together
Lovely waterfall shots, Akul! My favorite is N°4, which, to me, is more "involving" than N° 2 & 3. N°1 is a great shot, unfortunately the topography of the fall makes it look like either the top or the bottom part is less than horizontal.
Philippe - Thank you for your comment. I agree, I struggled with #1. It is a relatively understated, but quite a lovely waterfall, but it meanders around and making it tricky. especially shooting from an angled view. For #1, I chose to show it as I liked the way how water trailed in frame. I agree #4 is more involving part. I wish I could go a little closer for better angle but it required to get in not so shallow water with slippery bottom.
Gary - stunning image. Nice composition and great detail.
550D + 50 planar @ 2.5 and ISO 800 ( I forgot to reset to 100 from night shooting but oddly on this shot it doesn't matter and on others it does matter ! )
Some awesome shots with 35 / 1.4 which are giving me GAS !! also known as Gear Acquisition Syndrome in the electronic music community which is an another expensive hobby
Robert S - Now you said that, I see what you mean. Turtle head, or Gozilla head ( Japanese version not US ) .
Beautiful scenenry. Great sky and landscape
Makten - gorgeous shots. #2 especially. What is your take on x100 ?

Thanks akul! The X100 is a mixed experience. Great IQ and nice, small size. But the build quality isn't as good as the price suggest and the OVF is unusable with AF. I'll happily lug it around in my bag everyday til something better comes around.
SKumar25 - Nice portraits. I like the tone of #2
rscheffler - Fantastic shots. Great to see ZM shots with M9. Beautiful color, amazing detail.
Makten - I have not had a chance to even see the cameral in reality. It is a bit surprising to hear that build quality is not as good. They certainly made the promo photos look like it is a retro style, rigid body with precise machined metal only parts sort of camera. I guess they had to cut some corners for cost. However, if you say the IQ is great, that is a very good review for the camera.
So after spending a week reading all about Zeiss lens in this forum and the beautiful pictures that they produce, I took the plunge and bought the Zeiss 35/1.4 ZF.2. I use it with my D90. From what I've been reading and from my initial experience with it, the bokeh is amazing. However, I heard the resolution of this lens wasn't its strong point compared to the 35/2, but since I don't own the 35/2, I decided to test and compare the resolution with my Nikon 25-70/2.8G at 35mm.
I took shots at f2.8 and f4 for both lens (at 35mm for the Nikon). I viewed the raw file in Picasa at 100% zoomed in (just ordered Lightroom and still waiting for it). I was disappointed to discover that the Nikon has better resolution in the center at both apertures than the Zeiss 35/1.4! However, the Zeiss was slightly sharper along the outer edge.
Is this normal? Did I get a bad Zeiss sample? I thought Zeiss was king of resolution. Considering that the Zeiss is a prime lens and is more expensive than my Nikon, I would expect it to perform better at the center than the Nikon. Does anyone have a similar finding about the resolution of the Zeiss 35/1.4 lens?
