The inaccuracy of the focusing screen DOF isn't the problem, because even with a perfectly accurate screen you would see the focal point of f/1.4 all the time, which will not be the actual focal point when you stop down.
I don't know how the auto aperture works on Nikons, but with a ZE you're always focusing wide open, unless you keep the DOF preview button pressed, which is very uncomfortable unfortunately. If you use a ZF on Canon, then it's easy to focus at the working aperture (not considering the darkening of the focus screen).
You can also when using live view set it into movie mode and the lens will automatically stop down to the selected aperture. The only downside is that it displays an 16:9 image on the LCD which makes framing more difficult.
Thanks Gary, although I for obvious reasons don't share your hope!
We don't usually have fog here so I grabbed the camera and ran outside to take a couple of shots. The fog was gone within ten minutes but I managed to grab a couple of frames.

fracas - Congratulation on your decision to keep 21 over Canon ( from my perspective, of course. ) I like the first shot. Jaxtaposition of trees to signage, color makes the shot for me. Are you in the northern part of Italy ?
RZetter - Nice set. It felt like I was walking to the castle with your group. I like the interesting whale tail sculpture (2), composition of sign and zodiac on wet canvas with oof building behind(3), wonderful texture and detail of 'not so boring wall' (5), interestingly symmetrical and asymmetrical castle (6)
pinball_pw - Nice portraits. I like the first one.
Denoir - Sorry about your M9, I am with Gary, may be M9 can take a good long rest and relax in spa in germany so that I can see more beautiful shots on this thread, ha ha Seriously, sorry about the hassle. I am now facing the same thing with my ZF21 and dreading to part from it, I feel your frustration. Anyway, tree and the bicycle floating in golden glo of street lights, that is just a stunning shot. I really like the #2 and #3 also. By the way, as I do not own Leica, I was not compelled to leave post, but the bicycle with snow shots comparison in the other thread blew me away. I personally liked the ZE 85 shot among the three . If you don't mind can you post that photo over here too?? ( Hope the other people don't mind. )
Bob - Great night shot series from Chicago. Splendid capture of the famous Chicago skyline in all three. My favorite is the #1 with railroad in foreground.
fracas - The most 'northern' city I visited in Italy is Firenze, which I understand is not considered much of North. I miss Italy !

Sure, no problem.
Here is the comparison I posted in the Leica thread:
5DII + Zeiss 85/1.4 Planar:
M9 + Leica 75/2 Summicron (cropped to 85 mm size):
In the last example the exif is wrong as I had manually specified the lens and forgotten to reset it. Subsequently the in-camera corrections for the wrong lens were applied (the M9 applies corrections directly to the RAW, a very questionable approach).
Thanks Denoir !
I asked because not all who visit here would go to the other thread. These are all amazing shots.
Just so that I understood it correctly. The second and last are both Summicron 75, or #2 is apo and the #3 is non-apo? ZE is still my favorite, but I also see that ZE is more contrasty as you've mentioned. ( Assuming light on tree trunk is coming from a constant light source, not from cars driving by )
