Whew, this thread goes really fast on weekend !! ( wonder why )
Bob, Lars, thank you for the comment
Bob, your urbex shots are great. Lighting on all shots are very nicely wrapping the subject and deep saturated color is giving quite a specific look to all of them. Great !!
Bobu - Beautiful shots.
Philber - I love them all. Quite a beautiful rendition of atmosphere and depth of space on all of them. Very beautiful.
( EDITED )
As I was slow typing, there are already new beautiful pictures added. Makten, the first one remind me of Jackson Pollock. Second one is just beautiful
fracas
I also see you are still having difficulty. I hope it will all work out for you.
Makten, once more, your N°1 puts many fine paintings to shame!
Bob, your N°3 stands out from the other beautiful 3 pics!
Boris, two great pictures. What else is new?
Akul, love your shot!
Diploneis, great picture!
Luka, am I seeing things, or are the colours nicer than with your 5DII, in this (another) great set of yours?
Hi everyone,
I am repeating my question before, because a few hours ago I was not able to post my images.
Here is the ZE21 photo ...
... and here the same photo with the 17-40mm
I am a new owner of a 21mm Distagon, which I have bought also after have looked at your photos and advices.
As expected, I am very satisfied with overall sharpness (even borders at f/2.8 are sharp) and flare resistance... and manual focus is great.
On the other side I don't see the 3d-effect and the micro-contrast superiority, about which many people write in forums.
Here are attached two versions of the same photo: one shooted with the canon 17-40mmm (at 21mm) and the other with the distagon. Both photos at f/4. I see a difference in color rendition: the Zeiss is warmer, but I can't tell it is a particular advantage ... but I don't see differences in contrast or a different 3D effect.
Do you think I am doing something wrong? Or that my Distagon is not working well?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

leifa - Thank you so much. I am glad it looks ok. Average level of this thread is so high, every now and then, I get cold sweat after I post some images
Lars - Beautiful shot with 21. I love the ghosty image of sunken leaves under water. Very beautiful. For this particular shot, though, I wonder how the image would look without the gold border as somehow it fights with the leaf to my eyes. It may be just me though.
fracas - congratulation you made it !!!! Anyway, I am not the right person to give you advise neither on 3D rendition, or microcontrast, but I noticed just one thing. This particular scene may not accentuate the '3D' ness people talk about as much, because the subject, 'partial building roof' from that view point itself does not particularly accentuate 'volume', but I do see the roof tiles have more perceptive depth on your 21 shot. I may be wrong, but I sort of feel your lens is just fine as long as the sharpness is ther. You may want to test out with something smaller, and closer as your subject, such as, a vase with flowers or plate full of fruits or something in that rage . Like I said, I am no expert on this matter, you might want to check out this thread:

Hi Fracas,
interesting comparision, I would suggest that you slightly correct the 17-40 image to match the Zeiss pic colourwise, and show a 50% crop or so. This is more or less what the viewer sees when looking at a print, even 25% can do. I would be curious to see this comparision taken further.
I am a Zeiss user myself (currently 35, 50/1,4 and 85/1,4), but we should never stop to question whether our idea of what sets the Zeiss lenses apart is in line with reality or not. I would assume that except at F8 the Zeiss is much sharper and has better micro contrast, I remember the 17-40 to be soft in the corners and not very good for fine detail contrast.
Second, really, the quality of the images in this thread is unbelievable. I could spend half a day writing comments without giving all images the attention they deserve.
Akul, awesome light in that first shot. Great capture.
Philippe, very nice fall colors, a bit melancholic. Re: M9 colors, they are a bit different. I would not say that they are better or worse.

This is the question I had when I got my first zeiss. If you look in this forum thread you will find my question and reply to the question by Denoir (Luka). One thing, you will not have that convincing 3D effect in every shot. Two, you need to look at the images on different pages/tabs and not side by side to appreciate the difference. Luka, actually had written a nice post to explain that also in this thread.
Wow. I miss two days of this thread and I can't BELIEVE the amount of talent that was demonstrated in the meantime. Great stuff. I hate to single any out because pretty much everything posted was inspirational, but Luka, Martynas and Bob... just wow. Luka that puddle reflection was brilliant. Great job everyone.
