Can somebody direct me toward article what exactly is Slide Fix system ..what is a different between V grove on RRS Kirk Markins and new Slide Fix . Looking at the pictures it looks the same
( it may have variation in angle size etc). I was asked to make same Slide Fix Camera Plates
I don't have the exact measurements, which is probably something you can get from Precision Camera Works (or possibly from Rod Klukas at PhotoMark, a lot of people on the large format forum get referred to him because of his deep knowledge of the Arca system), but SlideFix rails are smaller than the standard Arca rails.
now thats more like it. some potential revealed. thats how it should have been presented originally by them. with the ability to bridge to a certain extent.
update: in review i do see an issue here which they should be able to clear up in NYC.
scenerio- there are 2 sets of jaws stacked to support the 2 clamping options. AS standard in the upper most positionand AS Slidefix in the lower position. the depth difference may make the use of the slidefix portion redundant in many configurations.
if you use this clamp with the combi AS standard/slidefix rails and an item fixed to said rail is wider then the clearance of the upper clamp jaws you would revert to the AS standard jaw.
for me. i'm seeing less a reason for the slidefix to become a popular option to their tried true and popular standard system. so i hope to keep it simple they come up with a simple standard AS clamp to screw on instead.
this is a new variation with the combo head. doesn't even show on the radar here in the US. probably will show at Photo Plus in NYC at the end of October. it would be nice if the just came out with a standard AS clamp w/o the slidefix setup to reduce the clutter.
After working for awhile with the Sunway panoramic clamp mounted to the p0 ( (if you missed my earlier entry you you need a 35mm long M6 bolt ( most hardware stores will stock this) to replace the Arca-Swiss hex headed bolt) I decided to swap that out for the larger diameter, heavier duty Really Right Stuff PCL-1 panning clamp. This also works fine.
this has me interested. i'll see what its about at P+
I believe that the "R4" is a typo on that blogger's part as when he first describes the two models of the new head he calls it a D4 and D4M:
"One really interesting item in the ARCA booth is an early production version of a new head called the D4. It comes in two versions, the D4 and the D4 M. In the M model, all movements are manual only. In the D4, the movements can be controlled either manually or with micrometers."
Just finished two very full days of shooting at the Albuquerque Ballon Fiesta. The longest and heaviest lens I had to work with Nikon's updated 200-400mm f/4G VR II. The p0 can support it but I was much more comfortable using that lens on the P0 with the head tilted fully over and using the panning movement to adjust the vertical angle and loosening the general ball tightening mechanism to adjust left/right positioning. A 300mm f/2.8 would be fine with it too, but I would not consider the p0 suitable for a 400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4 or longer lens.
Well, I bought a P0, along with a Sunway clamp. I'm not sure I'd want it as an only head because of the lack of a bottom pan, but I'm impressed. It's easily comparable to other small/mid-sized heads (RRS BH-40, Markins Q3 and Q10, Kirk BH-3, etc.). Smooth action, very intuitive use, and very stable.
The Sunway clamp was pretty clearly made to match, though the person who runs their ebay sales couldn't confirm that it would work (so I just ordered it to see). Quality of the clamp is very good. Anodizing on par with RRS, and it's nicely engineered. The knob sticks out farther than I'd like (in comparison to a lever clamp), and the spirit level is very tiny -- but those are pretty small complaints.
Turns out that the post on the ballhead is indeed easily removable with an 11mm socket. The female thread is M6, which fits the mounting bolt that came with the clamp (though I had to cut it down -- it was too long). Because of this, it's also easy to mount other non-threaded clamps, like the RRS LR, etc. Easy peasy.
When I ordered it, I assumed I'd also get a Feisol pan base, but I'm not really sure that's necessary.
