The 7 -14 lens is very very small. You would be very surprised. Here are two shots of it next to the 14-45 kit lens. The 7-14 has a built in hood that makes it a bit bigger than the kit lens but when you put the hood on the kit it is bigger.

It dwarfs the m.Zuiko 9-18 though, which is the same size as the collapsed Oly 14-42, or about 2/3rds the length of the Panny 14-45.
Yes, it does dwarf the 7-14 collapsed. Will be interesting to see what they've done about a hood. It could be an interesting lens but a stop slower through part of the zoom range.

Hood seems to be a bayonet type (unlike the silly hood-free 14-42). It'll be interesting if priced comparably to its 4/3rds sibling, provided it's also as good as the 4/3rds 9-18 (which is quite good itself).

I'd personally take the larger 7-14 for the extra wideness and constant f/4 aperture. Will be interesting to see what the cost difference is though. The Pansonic ain't cheap.

They've been shipping solo for months. IIRC, Amazon first started shipping 20mm's on their own in November.
Where have you seen the GF1 body-only?
My local pusher has had a few body-only GF1's come through since November. Hadn't seen any solo 20's before this week, I'd seen some listed, but always backordered/unavailable.

If you've got the money, the 7-14 is a no-brainer over the 9-18 unless you want a semi-pocketable setup. Faster, wider and still quite small. I won't be getting the 9-18 myself though, as for me getting the 4/3rds version is a better deal since I shoot 4/3rds as well and the 4/3rds 9-18 is already quite compact and AF's on all m43 cameras.
I'm still hemming & hawing about wide solutions, the 11-22 is just really tempting for my 4/3rds work due to its speed and range, but it's not a great choice for m43 due to size and lack of AF. The 9-18 would be the best compromise, but it's slow for my 4/3rds uses which tends to often be in low light. If I had the money I'd get the 11-22 and Panny 7-14, but the pair would be $2500CDN.
What I'd absolutely kill for would be m43 versions of the 11-22 and 14-54 HG series lenses (or the Leica 14-50 f2.8-3.5 OIS). I'm using the 14-54 on my G1 a fair bit of late simply because of the optical quality, none of the m43 zooms other than the 7-14 can touch the HG 4/3rds zooms optically.

Odd. You can't even buy them like that direct from Panasonic. You sure they weren't used? People buying 20mm kits just to get the lens, maybe?

Nope, body-only boxes. But he pre-ordered a bunch early on, I don't think that many were actually shipped, just like the 14-45 kit (which I've never actually seen).

Would love to see some pics from this lens... posters anyone?
Here's few I posted in another forum from the GH1 and 7-14mm. It is incredibly compact and delivers excellent IQ. I recently took a two week trip, left the 5DII and 16-35mm f/2.8L II at home and didn't regret it a bit.

Ah, keep forgetting you're in Canada, where it looks like they only sell body-only and 20mm kits. Interesting.
The 9-18mm is a compromise solution, either because of cost or size. 7mm to 8mm difference is significant, just like 24mm is against 28mm (in full frame). Also, constant f/4 obviously adds to the cost and bulk, although not really important for daytime landscape photo takers. I use mine even at night though, as a street lens .
Same in 4/3, either Olympus 7-14mm or Olympus 9-18mm. Both are good, but price difference is a wider spread than it will be in m4/3.

As good as the Panny 7-14 is, if the value proposition is iffy for someone, the m.Zuiko 9-18 will make a nice substitute if it performs anything like it's 4/3rds sibling, and of course it will be a lot smaller too. In fact if you have an MA1 adapter, the 4/3rds 9-18 is an excellent compact wide for lowish cost even for m43, it AF's on the G series as well.

Remember 4/3rds has the 11-22 right in the middle, which is a different set of compromises (It gives up some wide range for speed and is otherwise between the 7-14 and 9-18 on price and build). m43 lacks anything comparable to Oly's HG series lenses.
Wow, B&H want $1100 for the 7-14. Man that is expensive. I like a lot about the micro four thirds, but one could buy several very nice lenses for a digital rebel and be nearly as close in size.

It's actually the cheap version of the 7-14, the Oly 4/3rds version is significantly more.
And no, you can't even vaguely approach the size of a G series body with the 7-14 mounted with any lens on a Drebel that's in the same FoV range, the only configuration of an SLR which can come close would be a Pentax K-X or K-m with the DA 15/4 Limited pancake and that's equivalent to about 11mm on the 7-14's range. This lens is VERY small compared to any other zoom of similar FoV, and also extremely good (you'd need a 14-24 or similar to outperform it), The 7-14 on a m43 body really needs to be held to believe just how much smaller it is than any equivalent DSLR configuration (equivalent involving a lens of similar FoV range like an EF-S 10-22).

That is 7% longer and 11% greater diameter. In regards to the cameras:
Panasonic GF1: dimensions: 4.69 x 2.80 x 1.43"
Panasonic G1 dimensions: 4.9 x 3.3 x 1.8"
Canon Xsi dimensions: 5.1 x 3.8 x 2.4"
The biggest difference is between 1 inch to 0.6 inches in the depth of the camera due to the mirror box. If I was just starting out and did not have a lot of other equipment, it would be interesting. But at the price they are asking, it does not gain me much over what I already have. I cary the XSi when the 1DsMK2 is too much. So the XSi is really small to me already.

I use the 11-22 now with a Panasonic M4/3 adapter. It's a nice lens, but I find the ergonomics of the resulting camera-lens combo to be a little weird. I have the AF through the EP-1, but it stinks. Can't complain about the quality of image I get though.
The 9-18 is tempting, but if you like your wides, 2mm is a lot. I agree that the 9-18 makes a great value proposition, but given the success I've had with the EP-1 as a basic landscape and walkaround camera, I am prepared to swing for the 7-14. That said, if you are interested in the 11-22, I have one in excellent condition.
