kirk do a AS plate adapters for manfrotto.

+1 Simple and it works.
I haven't found a better solution for macro work at this price. With the MPE-65 and a macro rail, the fine adjustment is exactly what I needed.

Very tight macro product shots. Currently using an Arca-Swiss B1 with a Velbon focusing rail. The rail works fairly well, but tiny adjustments with the B1 are a pain.

What I am using for that kind of work these days is the majestic 1600 and the Really Right Stuff Ultimate-Pro Omni-Pivot Package: http://reallyrightstuff.com/rrs/Customkititems.asp?kc=Ult-Pro-OPP&eq=

The I set the head up so the geared tilt is side to side rather than fore and aft and use the second PCL-1 t for adjusting the fore/aft tilt angle.

plus sometimes a Sunway Photo DMP-210B ( http://www.sunwayphoto.com/En/Products.php?Cid=000326|000380 ) as needed.

Interesting. Maybe I really should check out the Majestic.

I'll set up and do a shot of the rig tomorrow. For the money however the 405 mated with the Kirk adapter may be enough bang for your buck.

I snagged a Majestic on eBay cheap enough that it's no big deal if I hate it. Should be here in a few days.

I realized I'm not concerned about QR for any of these because I'm just going to attach my focusing rail to the head, and I've already got an A-S clamp on top of the rail.

Good going. If the tripod screw is 3/8" instead of 1/4" Majestic is still in business # http://www.bencher.com/photo/gearheads.php and can ship you the replacement.

That's good to know. Even if I have to send it to them for servicing, it'll be worth it if I like it.

It'll go on a carbon-fiber Gitzo Explorer pod for product/macro work. (Kind of a strange combo, I suppose.) The B1 is a great head for almost everything else.

whoa! probably too much head for that light a tripod but I am interested hear how it works out. If the studio is a semi-permanent set up look on eBay for a twin strut Majestic leg set and side arm.

Yeah, if it turns out to be laughably top-heavy, I might look into a cheap, old, heavy-ass tripod made of "wood" or "metal."
